Bann’s success continued down South at the Blessington and Carlow regattas.  Young Bann stars Joel Cassells and Chris Black were unable to race in their International winning pair as they were both undergoing further testing for Yale University USA  at Trinity. Nevertheless, from his squad, coach Seamus Reynolds, entered the powerful men’s J18 pair of Matthew Wray and James McAfee who then won the Blessington pairs, the MJ18 four won in a most competitive category, and the Bann ladies WJ18 quad. also medalled. At Carlow, the younger rowers in the men’s development squad showed excellent boatspeed and endurance to qualify and then win both the M J16 coxed four and the MJ16 coxed quad. events. With the school exam period thankfully drawing to an end and the Irish Championships rapidly approaching, there will be even more “hard-core” training evident on the Bann over the next four weeks.
